Number 8 8July/September 2013) gives us an update on the state of Uttarakhand, the Indian region in the Himalayas which was struck by the gravest floods of its history. These caused the flooding of cities and villages in 168 districts, affecting an area of 37,000 square kilometres.
The new administration of the Indian Province of the Camillians, under the leadership of Fr. Baby Elickal, is working amongst the victims of these devastating floods. Last July, the Camillian Task Force (CTF) India, coordinated by Father Siby Kaitharan and two other Camillian religious (Father Jason and Father Sojan), together with the Association of Indian Health Care (AIHC), left for the area with the goal of engaging in a rapid assessment of needs and to distribute primary aid, with a view to a broader programme of action. After a few weeks of work, an emergency and rehabilitation project had been drawn up by the team in cooperation with the local points of reference.
