On Saturday 21 February 2015 a new ‘chapel’ was opened, even though it is the size of a church, at the Camillian Social Center of Sampran. This was a great choral celebration with the participation of many religious brothers who had come from all the communities of the religious Province, of priests from the diocese of Bangkok (amongst whom the Cardinal Emeritus and the Apostolic Nuncio in Thailand), of elderly people of the health-care institution, of benefactors and of friends. On Sunday 22 February another major celebration took place for the opening of the recreational area of the Camillian Social Center of Chanthaburi. The celebration of the Eucharist and the solemn lunch with the animation of songs and dances made a splendid setting for the day.

CURIOSITY! THE PORTRAIT OF ST. CAMILLUS AT THE POPAYÁN (THE VALENCIA MUSEUM)
There is a portrait of St. Camillus in Popayan, Colombia, in the private ‘Valencia’ Museum. He is often described as the saint to be prayed to when there are earthquakes! Sic! We can see with what realism the hands and the arms of Jesus Christ which are opened towards St. Camillus are painted. The nails are still in his hands.
The canonical erection of the new Camillian Province of India was solemnly celebrated on 2 February in Bangalore, India. In addition to our India religious brothers – nearly all of whom were present – there was a strong representation of our religious brothers from the mother Province of North Italy as well as from the Provinces of Thailand, Austria, England and Ireland, and Poland, and from the Delegation of Vietnam.

Thanks to the Province of Austria, and in particular to Father Leonard and Father Alberto, we have managed to build a pathway that is coming into being in the buildings of a Viennese hospital where we have always been responsible for the chaplaincy and where at the present time over 900 people are being looked after. This is a hotspot for the European Union, a place where people who come from Syria, Iran, Pakistan…try to go back to hoping. In particular, since the first of May a programme has been begun for women migrants from Syria, Iran , Iraq and Afghanistan who were identified as being some of the people most in need. They are accompanied on a journey of integration made up of being given lessons in German and receiving cookery classes, painting and music laboratories, but above all passion and welcome.enza
LA CELEBRAZIONE DI SANTA MARIA MADDALENA
On Sunday 12 June, the picture of Our Lady Salus Infirmorum, which has been kept for centuries in our Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Rome, was on display in St. Peter’s Square during the celebration of the Eucharist presided over by Pope Francis on the occasion of the jubilee of the sick, of people with disabilities, and of health-care workers. Young Camillians receiving formation at the studentate of Monte Mario offered the liturgical service during the Holy Mass.

KENYA: THE CAMILLIANS CELEBRATE THE FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR FOUNDATION
It is natural that Tabaka should have been the place where the Camillians of Kenya celebrated the fortieth anniversary of their arrival in the country. Even though the Camillians are by now present in various other localities, Tabaka always comes to mind when reference is made to our mission in this African country of East Africa. It is no accident that an article of 2003 published in the review Misssione Salute (‘Mission Health’) defined Tabaka as ‘the firstborn’.
The date 15 August 1976 has been established as the official day of the foundation, even though various Ministers of the Sick of the then Province of Lombardy and Veneto had already set foot in Tabaka for varying periods of time to explore the terrain for the establishment of our work. This terrain was in fact a hospital that had already been built a few years previously by the German Misereor in the parish area of Tabaka, in the diocese of Kisii. This is not the place to go over its history, piece by piece, starting with the long negotiations between Monsignor Ercole Brocchieri (of the diocese of Cremona) and Fr. Forsenio Vezzani (of the Province of Lombardy and Veneto). The details of it can be read in the easy-to-read book by Fr. Giovanni Bonaldi, I Camilliani in Kenya da 25 anni (‘The Camillians in Kenya for Twenty-five Years’, Verona, 2001).
THE RELIC OF THE HEART OF ST CAMILLUS IN TRENTO
The Camillian Family of Trento proposed to the Consulta for Pastoral Care in Heath of the diocese, on the occasion of the Jubilee of the Sick and the Christian Associations that are dedicated to their service, that they should venerate the relic of the heart of St. Camillus, the patron saint of the sick and those who provide them with care.
The meeting of the Superior General, the members of the General Consulta and the major Superiors of the Order took place on 9-16 October 2016 at the Centre National Cardinal Paul Zoungrana, which is located in the capital near to the ‘Centre Médical S. Camille’ of Ouagadougou.
During the meeting the fiftieth anniversary of the arrival of the Camillians in Burkina Faso was celebrated (the celebration took place on 16 October). The jubilee spirit was also the context to celebrate together the Canonical Erection of the new Camillian Province of Burkina Faso
One of the most touching moments of the second day of the visit of Pope Francis to Georgia was the meeting with those who are helped by the works of charity of the Catholic Church and with those who work in these works. The Supreme Pontiff visited the Redemptor hominis care centre of the Camillians where he was welcomed by the director of the institute and the director of Caritas Georgia.
THE PROVINCE OF SPAIN
On 29 November at the College of Architects of Madrid an award-giving ceremony was held of the seventh edition of the CASER Foundation. This was a moving, intimate and enthusiastic ceremony for initiatives that improve the quality of life of people who are dependent and for all citizens.

THE CAMILLIANS IN BURUNDI
The Camillians are present in about ten countries in Africa. After the first failed attempt in the Sudan at the end of the nineteenth century with Fr. Stanislao Carcereri, the Camillians settled in Tanzania (1959), Burkina Faso (1966) and Benin (1971), and then also established centres in Togo and the Central African Republic, Kenya (1976), Madagascar (1977), Uganda (2000), and recently also in the Ivory Coast (2015). For a short time they were also in Senegal. Nobody, however, knew that there are also Camillians in Burundi, even though ‘incognito’, and outside any juridical framework.
A CAMILLIAN ICONOGRAPHIC CURIOSITY
When preparing for the ‘Four Hundredth Anniversary of the Transit of St. Fr. Camillus’ of 14 July 2014, and carrying out intense research in our archives after the rediscovery of evidence relating in particular to famous musical pieces performed in our churches, luck had it that I came across a little yellowed picture printed in Paris which bore the caption ‘Christ on the Crucifix Comforts Father Camillus’, with the following text ‘in calce’: ‘C. Maratti pinxit\A.W. Schulgen Edit du St Siege.\Paris 25 rue St. Sulpice’. READ HERE

VALLE DELL’INFERNO… HOW IT WILL BE
This is ‘Valle dell’Inferno’, the place where St. Camillus had his conversion on 2 February 1575. After four centuries, still today pilgrims and people devoted to him who come to this place find themselves lost in a desert land, without even a rock on which to sit or pray. As a commemoration of the conversion of our saint, there is only an altar with a large red cross, but the area around it is abandoned to the elements, and there is no protection or defence against grazing animals or passing predators. St. Camillus does not deserve this!

A STATUE OF ST. CAMILLUS FOR THE CASA SOLLIEVO
Many reasons led the Camillian religious to donate the stature of their Founder St. Camillus to the Hospital of St. Pio. First of all, because this saint has been offered by the Church as a model for, and the patron saint of, the sick and all health-care workers
