Newsletter N. 65 – The Camillian World Seen from Rome…and Rome seen from the world

NEWSLETTER 65 – DECEMBER 2019

Esteemed friends and readers, we come to the end of the year 2019 and draw near to the new year of 2020 with a look back at our Camillian history and the most authoritative charismatic sources of the foundation of our Order.

On the web site www.camilliani.org, in the section ‘Essential Texts’, you can read or for your greater ease ‘download’ or print:

The Bull Illius qui pro regis of Pope Gregory XIV (21 September 1591) which approved and founded the Order.

The Bull Superna Dispositione of Pope Clement VIII (29 December 1600) which approved and confirmed the statutes of the Order.

The Bull Misericordiae Studium of Pope Benedict XIV (29 June 1746) on the canonisation of Saint Camillus.

Recently, next to the more famous Vita manoscritta di San Camillo by Fr. Sanzio Cicatelli we have added the text in PDF of the Annali dei Chierici Regolari Ministri degli Infermi by Fr. Cosma Lenzo – prologue and first part (until 1598) – with the Italian translation of the original Latin by the Camillian religious Fr. Giuseppe Villa Cerri.

Thoughts of the novice Lorenzo Lettere – of the Camillian Province of Rome – who on 12 November 2019 was awarded a degree in nursing and made the defence of his thesis vibrate with the Camillian spirit.

‘I abandoned my studies in 2008 with great disappointment without, however, forgoing the idea of going back to my books one day. And when in January 2016 I drew near to my thirtieth birthday the question became much more pressing in my mind. But I did not think there was much possibility of doing this – I would never have been able to mix work with studies. But what I thought then was different from the design that God had for me!

With the intention of serving the most vulnerable and at the same time with the goal of reducing the spread of the virus of this disease, the management of the hospital thought it was advisable to create a new space able to meet a new urgent need.

Now they live in Christ whom they met in the Church, followed in our vocation, and served in the sick and the suffering. Trusting that the Lord, the Holy Virgin our Queen, St. Camillus, the Blessed Luigi Tezza, the Blessed Giuseppina Vannini, the Blessed Enrico Rebuschini and the Blessed Maria Domenica Brun Barbantini and our deceased religious brothers and sisters, will welcome them in their midst, we commend them in our prayers, remembering them with affection, esteem and gratitude’.

PRAYER FOR THE VICTIMS OF ALL TYPES OF DISASTERS – CADIS

For all the victims of all types of disasters, for people who have lost their lives, for their loved ones, for the survivors, and for all those who work to provide help, we pray:

God in heaven, who has created and who preserves every existence,

You know all of our sadness and our suffering. May all the victims of all types of disasters be welcomed in your peace! Receive, we pray, in your mercy, our very many brothers and sisters buried by the forces unleashed by nature. Lead them to your home!

Comfort the pain of so many families, dry the tears of so many brothers and sisters, offer protection to the loneliness of so many orphans. Instil courage into everyone so that pain is transformed into a journey of growth and hope.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS IN THE LORD AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2020!
