The second provincial chapter of the Camillians in Burkina Faso

The Camillian Province of Burkina Faso is celebrating its second Provincial Chapter from January 8 to 10 of 2020 at the St. Camillus Hospital of Ouagadougou. The theme of the Chapter is “What prophecy of the Camillian charism in the ecclesial and socio-health context of our country Burkina Faso”.

The opening Eucharistic celebration was presided by His Eminence Card. Philippe Ouedraogo, the archbishop of Ouagadougou and concelebrated by Mons. Leopold Medard Ouedraogo, his auxiliary and in-charge of the Commission of Consecrated Life, and Mons. Justin Kientega of the Episcopal Commission for Pastoral Health, Don Luca, charge d’affaires of the nunciature, and all other capitulars at the new chapel of the Hospital.

The highlight of the Chapter was the inspirational talk and challenge to the Province delivered by Mons. Justin Kientega. He emphasized two main challenges, namely, on the personal level as consecrated persons and the current social circumstances of Burkina Faso. As consecrated persons and as Camillians, scientific competence should draw us more to the most vulnerable people who have no access to healthcare; secondly, we should listen to the cry of the internal refugees who have been wandering around in the big cities seeking for appropriate care and security.

The opening day was graced also by the participation of the Daughters of St. Camillus, the Lay Camillian Family and other lay organizations inspired by St. Camillus. The Province is offered and grateful for this new opportunity of a wider collaboration in promoting service to the sick as the “hundred arms of St. Camillus de Lellis”.
