Historic Day of the ‘CAMILLIANUM’ of Burkina Faso

12193572_413891565477365_5758830823719525319_nOn Sunday 25 October His Excellency Mr Michel Kafando, the President of the Republic of Burkina Faso, accompanied by the Minister of Health and the Minister for Education, honoured by his presence the ceremony for the award of diplomas at the ‘Centre for Pastoral Care in Health –‘Camillianum’ of Ouagadougou’.

Four bishops were present, amongst whom the Camillian Msgr. Prosper Kontiebo, the Bishop of Tenkodogo.

In this way the President wanted to express to Camillian religious his esteem for the work that was engaged in during the first moments of the attempted coup d’état, both in the Hopital Saint Camille and in the health centre of the diocese.

The wife of the legendary historian of Burkina Faso, Prof. Ki Zerbo, was present. The reason for this was that those receiving diplomas were placed under the protection of his grandfather, Alfred Simon Djiban, a ‘Servant of God’, whose cause for beatification is now underway.

The participation of His Excellency the President, and of ministers of his government, will increase knowledge about ‘the pastoral care in health of the Camillians’, and, as was hoped for in the various speeches, will also promote the placing of disciplines that are taught at the Camillianum such as ‘bioethics’ and ‘help relationships’ in the teaching programmes of schools of medicine and nursing. This solemn celebratory event came to an end with the signing by the high authorities of the State and the Church of Burkina Faso of the ‘Golden Book of the Camillianum’ and the official photograph of those who had received their diplomas.

The ‘Camillianum’, supported by the whole of the Camillian community of Bukina Faso, is entrusted to Fr. Edgar Yameogo who took his degree in ‘the theology of pastoral care in health’ at the ‘Camillianum’ of Rome (from press agencies).
