Ban Ki-moon’s letter of thanks for the welcome that he had received from the Camillians of Burkina Faso

4The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Ban Ki-moon, during his visit to Burkina Faso in March of this year visited the new births and paediatric clinic for the admission and treatment of new-born babies and children with HIV/AIDS at the Hôpital Saint Camille, a hospital that is managed by our religious brothers of Burkina Faso.

Fr. Paul Ouedraogo, a Minister of the Sick and the director of the hospital, wanted to share with all of us the letter that Ban Ki-moon sent to him to thank him for the warm hospitality that he had received but above all else for the notable work involving help and support that the Hôpital Saint Camille offers to people with HIV.

‘Reverend Father,

Allow me to express my sincerest gratitude for the warm welcome that you gave me and my delegation on the occasion of our visit to the St. Camillus Hospital of 3 March 2016 during the official visit that I made to Burkina Faso.

I would also like to thank you for the splendid gift which will be a souvenir of my visit.

I was deeply moved by the devotion and the professionalism that I encountered in the personnel of the hospital in carrying out the noble mission of service and care for people (both adults and children) who live with the HIV virus. I was honoured to observe the excellence of the support you provide as regards the treatment and care that is given to these people. Your work constitutes an exemplary model of notable activity carried out in Burkina Faso for the health and wellbeing of the population, in particular for children and adolescents. I congratulate you on the relationship of cooperation that exists between the St. Camillus Hospital and the United Nations. There is no doubt that this partnership will contribute to the implementation of long-term development plans in Burkina Faso’.
