Celebration of Camillus de Lellis the St. Camillus hospital – Rome 16-23 June 2013

Renato Salvatore Superiore Generale dei Ministri degli Infermi copiaThe celebrations of St. Camillus de Lellis at the St. Camillus-Forlanini Hospital of Rome, one of the largest health-care institutions of the capital where Camillian religious have exercised their ministry as chaplains for over eighty years, were intense and much participated in. This programme took place between 16 June and 23 June 2013.
The programme began on Sunday 16 June with a pilgrimage to Bucchianico in which took part health-care workers of the hospital, medical doctors, associations of volunteers and prayer groups. On Tuesday 18 June the principal church of the hospital, named after Mary the Health of the Sick, received the students of the conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome for a concert given by an ensemble of cellos. The concert ended the season of concerts of ‘Santa Cecilia Plays to St. Camillus’, an initiative promoted by the chaplains and the hospital company and directed by Dott. Lauro di Meo. The highest authorities were present: Prof. Aldo Morrone, the General Director; Dott.ssa Rossana Lucchese, the Office for External Communications; Fr. Renato Salvatore, the Superior General of the Camillians, accompanied by Mrs Floriana Tarulli of the Office for Communications of the Fourth Centenary; and Edda Silvestri, director of the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia. During the concert the first world performance of the official hymn of the Ministers of the Sick, ‘Above in Heaven’, was given with the new musical arrangement  of Fr. Sergio Palumbo, with the participation of the Daughters of St. Camillus of Grottaferrata. On Thursday 20 June the health-care workers of the Community of Sant’Egidio animated a moment of prayer at the ‘St. Camillus de Lellis’ Chapel. The subject of the meeting was ‘The Charity of St. Camillus towards the Poor’. On Friday 21 June a group of health-care workers, accompanied by Fr. Sergio, head of the chaplaincy of the hospital, visited the extraordinary exhibition of the 400 years of the activity of the Camillians in the world which was held in the Complesso del Vittoriano from 23 May to 23 June 2013.
On Saturday 22 June, at the ‘Salus Infirmorum’ Church, was held the customary concert in honour of St. Camillus with sax, voice and piano, performed by the tenor Antonio Pochiero. The evening was enriched by the participation of the ‘In Laetitia’ Choir directed by Maestro Fabio Nesbeda.
The programme ended on Sunday 23 June with the solemn concelebration presided over by Fr. Emilio Blasi, Provincial Superior of the Camillians of the Province of Rome. At the Holy Mass were present, in addition to the chaplains and some of the parish priests of the area, also Msgr. Andrea Manto, director of the diocesan office for pastoral care in health.
