Fr. Eduardo Morante – 57th General Chapter, May 7 2013

PRESENTATION

My name is Eduardo Morante, I come from Peru; we have been in Peru for a long time. The Peruvian foundation is dated to 300 years ago and is one of our oldest presences after those that were founded here in Italy. We work in very many fields. Education: we have a centre for formation for our young men who wish to become religious, like me and very many other brothers. Furthermore, we have a centre for pastoral formation because they want to learn from our experience, our spirituality, and want to work near to us with the sick. We also work as chaplains, and if I count them up, more or less, we have about fifteen hospitals of the Peruvian government, in all the parts of the eight cities that we have in Peru. We have a welcoming centre where poor people, who have no money to pay, are welcomed. After they have finished their treatment in a hospital their intention is to stay in the hospital to continue with their treatment . We give them accommodation, food, those kinds of things.

EXPECTATIONS

I agree with what Father Henry said. There are so many things in Peru that we are trying to advance. For example the slogan of this Chapter is ‘towards a faithful and creative life’. Faithful because our Institute and our spirituality are so wide ranging, vast, there are so many good things to do, to carry forward in our country. I think that it is a fine opportunity for us. The Institute, our Order, we come from different places, from different cultures, with different languages, but what unites is the fact that our charism, our spirituality, still today is of contemporary relevance and it is for this reason that, as Henry said, if we place ourselves together, if we work together, if we also take advantage of this possibility of putting together our resources, we will continue to be active and perhaps also actualise our forms so as to advance the health of the poorest and those most in need.
